10 km doctor’s run, the race in which doctors and students from UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” ran for the endowment of the paediatric oncology ward

The charity run “Medic de 10 km”, an event that has already reached its second edition and that we hope will become a tradition of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hațieganu”, took place again this year, in May, in the Central Park “Simion Bărnuțiu” and gathered more than 350 doctors, teachers and students from the three faculties of the university. They all ran for a noble goal, which was to support the Onco-pediatric Department of the Oncology Institute “Prof. Dr. I Chiricuță” in Cluj-Napoca. All the funds raised from the participation fees and donations were used to equip the onco-pediatric ward of the Oncological Institute “Prof. Dr. I. Chiricuță” with tablets, TVs and books for the little patients admitted here.

“Physical education and sport, preventive medicine, are aspects that Professor Iuliu Hațieganu promoted throughout his life. He was one of the organizers of mass physical education in rural and university environments and he founded, donating the land, a sports park especially for young people and students, which now bears his name. I am glad that today’s medical school in Cluj, to whose founding he made an essential contribution, is further contributing to the fulfilment of his dream“, said the rector of the UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” in Cluj-Napoca, Anca Buzoianu.

The charity run “Medic de 10 km” was organized by the Organization of Dentistry Students Cluj-Napoca, the project “Sport for Health” – part of the Organization of Medical Students in Cluj and the Organization of Pharmacy Students Cluj-Napoca, under the auspices of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hațieganu” Cluj-Napoca.
