Who can apply?
- Medicine – in English and French, 6 years, 360 ECTS credits – for citizens of EU Member States, EEA, Swiss Confederation or third countries (NON-EU);
- Medicine – in Romanian, 6 years, 360 ECTS credits – for citizens of third countries (NON-EU) only;
- Dental medicine – in English and French, 6 years, 360 ECTS credits – for citizens of EU Member States, EEA, Swiss Confederation or third countries (NON-EU);
- Pharmacy – in French, 5 years, 300 ECTS credits, – for citizens of EU Member States, EEA, Swiss Confederation or third countries (NON-EU);
- Balneophysiokinetotherapy and medical recovery – in Romanian, 3 years, 180 ECTS credits – only for citizens of EU Member States, EEA and Swiss Confederation.
- Completion of an accredited high school in the country of origin
Applicants for admission to studies at UMFh Cluj-Napoca, based on an evaluation of academic performance and personal achievements, may be citizens of EU member states, EEA countries, the Swiss Confederation or non-EU (third-country) nationals. The minimum requirement for eligibility is the completion of an accredited high school in the country of origin, with a diploma that grants access to university studies in that country and it is recognized by the Ministry of Education in Romania. (See Appendix 5)

- Language Proficiency
For the study programs in English and French, the language competency must be proved by submitting a Language Proficiency Certificate of minimum B2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages (CEFR), issued by accredited institutions (universities, cultural centres, language centers, other accredited institutions). Certificates with limited validity must be valid at the beginning of the academic year in which the applicant will be enrollled.
If the candidate has fully followed and completed his/her secondary studies in English/French, it is not necessary to submit a language proficiency certificate.
Candidates who have obtained the minimum B2 level in English or French, according to CEFR, during the baccalaureate examination, will present this document.
For the study programs with courses taught in Romanian the following certificates are recognized:- Diploma /Certificate of completion of a one-year preparatory course in romanian language;
- Study documents proving that the applicant completed at least four consecutive years of study in Romanian language, in a school belonging to the Romanian educational system;
- Language certificates minimum B2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, issued by Romanian higher education institutions accredited to organize a one-year preparatory course in Romanian as a foreign language, departments of Romanian language, literature, culture and civilization in universities outside Romania, the Romanian Language Institute or the Romanian Cultural Institute.
University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Haţieganu” Cluj-Napoca will organize language proficiency examinations for admission 2025, starting with June 2025.
How to apply?
Applications are exclusively online via the admission platform.
After registration, the International Student Department verifies if the documents and information provided comply with the methodology.
Eligible candidates receive a validation email, while incomplete applications receive an invalidation email.
Ensure to check the Spam/Junk email folders throughout the admission process.
Completing the application is the candidate’s responsibility and must be done on the admission platform within the legal deadline.
Incomplete applications will not be considered for evaluation.
Documents sent by mail, email, or courier are not accepted.

The Candidates’ academic and personal achievements will be evaluated by a faculty-approved commission based on general and faculty-specific selection criteria. (See Appendix 4)
The selection results are final and cannot be contested.

The application evaluation process will take place over two sessions, according to the admission schedule:
- Session I is intended for citizens of EU, EEA, the Swiss Confederation, or third countries (non-EU) who have passed their baccalaureate/graduation exams with final results in previous years.
- Session II is intended for citizens of EU, EEA, the Swiss Confederation, or third countries (non-EU) who have passed their baccalaureate/graduation exams with final results.
Applicants whose files were evaluated but not accepted in Session I will remain in the competition for Session II, without having to pay an additional file processing fee.
Required documents
List of required documents for the application, translation, and legalization requirements
How must be legalized the required documents (study documents and birth certificate) based on the issuing country?
A. Legalisation of study documents issued by the authorities of the European Union, EEA and Swiss Confederation Member States is carried out according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education: https://cnred.edu.ro/lista-statelor-pentru-care-se-solicita-apostilarea-sau-supralegalizarea/.
- Copies of the study documents issued by the authorities of the Member States of the European Union, the EEA, and the Swiss Confederation must be legalised by the competent authorities of the issuing countries.
- If the study documents are issued in languages other than Romanian, English or French, their translations must be notarised.
- The study documents issued by Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Cyprus must be Hague Apostille authenticated.
- The authentication of the study documents with Hague Apostille is carried out as follows: the ORIGINAL document (baccalaureate diploma, baccalaureate transcript) is apostilled, and 1 translation of the original appostiled document is legalised/apostilled.
- If the study documents are issued in languages other than Romanian, English or French, their translations must be notarised.
- Attention! Translations made in Greece must be legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Greece or authenticated with the Hague Apostille.
B. Legalisation of study documents and birth certificates issued by authorities of a third country (NON-EU) is carried out according to the requirements of the Ministry of Education:
- For the States Parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, the study documents subject to the equivalence/recognition and the birth certificates must be authenticated with the Hague Apostille by the competent authorities of the issuing countries.
- For States which are NOT Parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, the study documents and birth certificates must be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuing country.
The exemption from super-legalization is permitted, according to the law, according to an international treaty to which Romania is a party or on the basis of reciprocity.
Diplomas issued in the Republic of Moldavia do not require the Apostille or super-legalization. Diplomas issued before 2008 (and diplomas issued after 2008 which cannot be verified through the portal) will be joinned by a Certificate of authenticity in original issued by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Moldavia.

Enrollment Information
After confirming the place, the International Students Department will send, at the beginning of September, information about the final enrollment (enrollment period, study contracts, location, etc.). In this regard, we recommend checking regurlarly your email inbox.
The enrollment period takes place during the last two weeks of September, by submitting the original documents uploaded on the admission platform, as well as other documents requested by the department.
Visa Procedure
The Citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA), and the Swiss Confederation do not require a student visa to study in Romania.
All students must register their residence with the Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs in Romania. The International Students Department will provide guidance in this process.
The citizens from third countries (Non-EU) need a Type D student visa, which is issued by the Romanian Embassy in their country of origin.
The visa is granted based on the Letter of Acceptance for Studies, issued by the General Directorate of International Relations and European Affairs within the Ministry of Education.
The International Students Department will assist in obtaining this Letter of Acceptance.
To receive the Type D student visa, it is mandatory to pay the full tuition fee for the first academic year.
All students must register their residence with the Ministry of Administration and Internal Affairs in Romania, with guidance provided by the International Students Department.
Recognition of Studies
For citizens of the European Union, EEA, and the Swiss Confederation, the recognition of studies is carried out by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, which is a department of the Romanian Ministry of Education.
The required documents for the recognition of high school studies must be included in the admission application. If your admited and your file is complete, the University will forward your documents to the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas.
Following the evaluation, the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas will issue a certificate that grants you the right to pursue university studies in Romania.
Failure to obtain the recognition of high school studies from the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas will result in the loss of student status and all the fees paid to that point.
For citizens from third countries (Non-EU), the equivalence of high school studies is conducted by the General Directorate of International Relations and European Affairs within the Romanian Ministry of Education.
The necessary documents for the recognition of high school studies must be included in the admission application. If your admited and your file is complete, the General Directorate of International Relations and European Affairs will issue a Letter of Acceptance, which is essential for obtaining the Type D student visa.
Failure to obtain the recognition of high school studies from the General Directorate of International Relations and European Affairs will result in the loss of student status and all the fees paid to that point.
Important Notices
- presenting the study documents, in original;
- fulfilling the legal conditions for enrolllment, including the recognition and equivalence of high school studies by the Romanian state authorities;
- signing the study contract and paying the financial obligations.
Transfers
The students admitted to study program Medicine or Dental Medicine, cannot change their program within the first academic year.
The transfers between these two programs are possible after the first year, depending on available places and justified reasons.
The students admited to study program Pharmacy CANNOT transfer to other programs.
