
What is NeurotechEU?
NeurotechEU, the European University of Brain and Technology, is an alliance of eight leading European universities that join forces to build a trans-European network of excellence in brain research and technologies:

- Radboud University (The Netherlands)
- Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Spain)
- Karolinska Institutet (Sweden)
- University of Bonn (Germany)

- Reykjavík University (Iceland)
Through close collaboration across disciplines, institutions, and countries, NeurotechEU aims to tackle the biggest challenges in brain science, neurotechnology, and higher education. It fosters innovative research by connecting fields like medicine, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, engineering, and more.
By operating as an integrated educational and research space, NeurotechEU enhances mobility, access, and collaboration between students, teachers, and researchers in Europe. The alliance promotes specialised, interdisciplinary education and seeks to prepare a new generation of professionals who will shape the future of brain-related technologies and healthcare.
Why is NeurotechEU important for UMF Cluj?
As one of the founding members of NeurotechEU, ”Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca (UMF Cluj) brings its strong expertise in neuroscience, clinical research, and medical education into this visionary alliance.
UMF Cluj contributes to the mission of NeurotechEU by supporting interdisciplinary research, developing innovative academic programmes, and promoting international collaboration in neuroscience and neurotechnology. UMF Cluj is an active member of several Work Packages within NeurotechEU:
During phase 2 (2023-2027) NeurotechEU activities are coordinated in 5 work packages (WPs):
- WP 1: Management and coordination
- WP 2: Interdisciplinary knowledge creation
- WP 3: Empowering learners and staff
- WP 4: Common policies and strategy
- WP 5: Impact and dissemination
The local team includes teachers, researchers, students, project managers, and faculty representatives. UMF Cluj also promotes regular events, workshops, and info sessions to engage the university community in NeurotechEU activities.
