StratNeuro Retreat 2026: Strengthening European Neuroscience through NeurotechEU

StratNeuro Retreat 2026: Strengthening European Neuroscience through NeurotechEU
3–5 June 2026 | Djurönäset, Sweden (Stockholm archipelago)

UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” Cluj-Napoca invites members of its academic community to express interest in participating in the StratNeuro Retreat 2026, a key neuroscience event hosted by Karolinska Institutet within its Strategic Research Area Neuroscience (StratNeuro) and open to participants from across the NeurotechEU Alliance.

Taking place from 3 to 5 June 2026 at Djurönäset, in the Stockholm archipelago, the retreat brings together researchers, clinicians, and doctoral candidates for focused scientific exchange and networking. The programme covers a broad spectrum of cutting-edge neuroscience, from molecular mechanisms to cognitive and social processes, while creating space for meaningful, long-term collaborations across Europe.

A dedicated PhD Day: 3 June

The retreat opens with a PhD Day centred on career development and networking. Doctoral candidates will have the opportunity to connect with peers and senior researchers, discuss career paths in academia and beyond, and strengthen their international networks within the Alliance.

Main Scientific Programme: 4–5 June

The core programme spans two days and includes:

  • plenary lectures
  • short talks
  • poster sessions
  • thematic breakout discussions

This year’s edition will feature keynote lectures by three internationally recognised speakers:

  • Anne Schäfer (Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, Germany)
  • Nachum Ulanovsky (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel)
  • Grégoire Courtine (EPFL, Switzerland)

Their contributions will be complemented by presentations from leading researchers at Karolinska Institutet and partner institutions, highlighting advances across diverse neuroscience fields.

Poster session and prizes

A structured poster session with alternating presentation groups will support in-depth discussion and strong visibility for early-career researchers. Poster prizes will be awarded during the closing session.

Breakout sessions: key themes for collaboration

Parallel breakout sessions will focus on four thematic areas:

  • Circuits to Behaviour
  • Biomarkers in Neurological Diseases
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Human Brain Imaging

These sessions are designed to encourage targeted exchanges and help participants identify concrete collaboration opportunities within and beyond NeurotechEU.

Registration and expression of interest

All members of the NeurotechEU community, including doctoral candidates, researchers, faculty members, and affiliated staff, are welcome to take part in StratNeuro Retreat 2026.
