Within the Histology discipline, we carry out didactic activity with students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dental Medicine and those of the Faculty of General Nursing and Health Sciences (study programs General Nursing, Radiology and Imaging, Balneo-physio kinetic therapy and Recovery, Nutrition and Dietetics, Dental Technology, Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology). The courses and practical works are taught in all three languages of study and aim to familiarize students with elementary notions of General and Special Histology, with reference to the microscopic and electron microscopic structure of tissues and organs within the body systems. The modern infrastructure (virtual microscopy, educational and individual optical microscopes, histological slides in various histological stains) facilitates the process of assimilation of morphological notions. The optional courses of the discipline, “The use of stem cells in cell therapy and tissue engineering”, respectively “Morphological and morphogenetic bases of clinical practice” carried out in all three languages of study, are constantly being addressed by students. The members of the Histology Discipline coordinate licence theses and are involved in tutoring activity.

Scientific and research activity is carried out in the Discipline, the members of the team having the quality of directors or members in research projects won in national and international competitions. Three of our lecturers achieved their doctoral habilitation. Two teaching staff are co-opted as doctoral supervisors at the Doctoral School of our University. The members of the discipline participate as coordinators or collaborators of postgraduate courses.

Some of the members of the Discipline carry out integrated medical activity in the Departments of the Cluj County Emergency Clinical Hospital and in private medical centers.

Didactic activity carried out with the students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dental Medicine and the students of the Faculty of General Nursing and Health Sciences, the study programs Balneo-physio kinetic therapy and Recovery, respectively Medical Cosmetics and Cosmetic Product Technology, coordination of doctoral theses, license theses, tutoring, development of courses, coordinator of postgraduate courses.

Scientific and research activity: director or member in projects won through competition at national level. Mentor for internal research grants. Permanent concern for the valorization of research results, through the publication of scientific articles and communications at scientific events. Elaboration of monographs.

Professional activity: Specialist in Radiology and Medical Imaging speciality, certified by complementary studies in General Ultrasound. Clinical activity is integrated in the Radiology Laboratory of the Cluj County Emergency Clinical Hospital.

Professor Șușman Sergiu

Didactic activity: lectures and practical works in histology for the Romanian and French-language study groups, the elective lectures on stem cells, as well as lectures at the Doctoral School.

Scientific and research activity: after graduating from the Cluj-Napoca University of Medicine and Pharmacy I completed specialization programmes in Paris (where I received the European University Research Diploma in Cancerology), Heidelberg (integrated diagnosis of brain tumours), Nice (development and running of a biobank), Montpellier (cancer stem cells) and Rouen (molecular diagnosis, preanalytical phase). In recent years I have participated in national and international projects as research team director, mentor, coordinator or member. The results of this research activity were published in Q1 and Q2 journals and also led to the granting of a patent. I also supervise doctoral theses.

Professional activity: pathologist at the Imogen Research Centre, Department of Pathology-Neuropathology.

Other teaching activities: teaching optional and postgraduate courses, organizing workshops for students and young doctors, tutoring activity, coordinating license theses, mentoring internal research grants. Publishing, as a collaborator, author or coordinator of books for university use in Romanian, English and French, and chapters in specialized books in national and international publishing houses.
