Students, researchers and academic staff from UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” are invited to participate in the NeurotechEU Autumn School “Advancements in Experimental Microsurgery”, taking place from 19 to 30 October 2026 in a blended format, combining online learning with hands-on training at UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” Cluj-Napoca.
Developed by UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Boğaziçi University, the Autumn School offers scientific and technical training in experimental microsurgical techniques.
The programme aims to establish a common foundation for participants from different academic backgrounds and progressively develop the precision and technical skills required for microsurgical interventions and translational research, bringing together medicine, biology and neurotechnology.
The programme is structured over two weeks:
19–23 October 2026 | Online
The first week will provide theoretical training covering topics such as experimental design, model systems, fundamental neurobiology, microsurgical techniques and research ethics. Participants will also be introduced to the Surgical Innovation Challenge.
26–30 October 2026 | Cluj-Napoca
The second week will focus on intensive hands-on training at UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu”. Participants will develop microsurgical skills using different experimental model systems, progressing from fine motor skills and precision dissections to microvascular surgery techniques.
Who can apply: Bachelor’s students, Master’s students, PhD students, researchers and academic staff, particularly those with an interest or background in neuroscience, medicine, biomedical engineering and related disciplines.
Those interested in participating are kindly asked to contact the NeurotechEU team at UMF “Iuliu Hațieganu” at neurotecheu.mobility@brainscience.ro by 27 September 2026.
More information is available on the NeurotechEU website.
